Hi,
Just a few more questions:
1. Is there any plans to make interprise usable on 64 bit operating systems XP or Vista 2. Our product database is at about 22,000 at the moment and it is not fast when adding items to orders etc. It is OK but not great. Is there away to speed things up. We are using server express 2005. Would full version speed things up or next updates etc.
Sorry for all the questions

I'd say more memory and CPU cache would help. If you have that many product items idealling I would setup SQL Express or SQL Server on another machine and set your machine to connect to it. That way you are not putting the full load of the database engine on your machine. Chris |

Jefferson, I don't want to hijack a thread but can you help me with Vista 64 bit? I have tried to get it to run but it won't. It gives the following error... Access to the path 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Interprise Solutions\Interprise Suite 2007 Standard Edition\CustomPlugin\Interprise.Presentation.Customer\2007.1.3.2\Interprise.Presentation.Customer.dll' is denied. I have tried turning off UAC but it did not help. What do I do to make it work? Thank you for any help Greg |

Hi Greg, Are you trying to run IS with vista 64 bit? or you are trying to run IS in vista 64bit with your plugin in it? cause in the path that you've given above, the "CustomPlugin" folder only contains reports, dashboards, charts, word processor, and your custom plugins. In other words, there is no "Interprise.Presentation.Customer" in Custom Plugin folder. |

Hi Jefferson, I am trying to get IS to run on Vista 64 bit. We do have a couple of custom plugins assemblies that we have created but none by that name. I don't know why that path is given. Looking on an XP 32bit machine that has IS installed and working with our plugins and that path does not exist. I don't know why the installation on the Vista 64 is trying to access it. Any clues why IS would be trying to create/access this path on a Vista64 machine? Thanks Greg |

Hi Greg, I suggest you try re-installing IS in Vista 64bit because we don't encounter that type of situation. Can you let me know what version of Interprise Suite you do have? and if you are still encountering problems after you've finished re-installing i suggest you to forward your concern at support@interprisesolutions.com cheers and goodluck ^_^ |

RE: 64 bit compatibility (XP/Vista) >> IS already support this environment apart from the web services wherein you need to change IIS to run under 32 bit. If your server is SQL Express 2005 there is definitely a performance loss as far as doing transaction in IS is concerned. I do recommend to change it to a full version of SQL 2005 64bit whenever possible and you will definitely have performance gain. You may also consider disabling the usage of a cache database when running IS over LAN. RE: Access denied on Vista >> If you already turned off UAC then you can try running IS using the administrator account. To do this, right-mouse click on the IS icon from the desktop and select the "Run as Administrator" from the context menu. Another alternative is to copy and entire IS installation folder and paste it to your D:\ drive or data drive and not from your OS drive which is typicall C:\. When you do this you need to change the icons from the desktop to point to these new location instead of the default one. |

Ramil D Thanks for the info there is definately an issue with performance, especially when inserting products into orders etc, take a while sometimes. Also some errors appear from time to time and you need to close. I will look at server 2005 full version and get a dedicated server to run it. Also we do run over a network so disabling the cache how would this help (so i can understand) and how would i go about it. I am after a quick accounts system.. Thanks Kelvin P |

Everyday our team is looking for ways to improve the product. Any metrics that you can provide to us on how you are using the application in a daily transactional basis will mean a lot in order to fine tune the performance of the application. We appreciate your feedback regarding this matter.
Now regarding the disabling of cache when you have a dedicated server box running over your LAN means maximize the processing power of your workstation by not running SQL Server Express on it. We found out that it is more efficient to have the cache disabled and let the server do its work of processing the request as opposed to the workstation doing both. Keep in mind that SQL Server Express is a server application and it consumes a lot of RAM and disk I/O. I hope it makes sense.
Interprise Suite is fairly quick if you put the right H/W and S/W resources to it. You might want to have at least 2GB RAM on your workstation and 4GB RAM on your server. Installing 64bit SQL Server Full Edition will boost performance too. This particular setup will gain you the right performance you need that is if you're an SMB. |

Hi Ramil, I have checked and the cache is off, I'll give you some insight on the operating system and setup i am running. I am as you know running XP 64 bit Pro I have 8 gb of Ram with a super fast processor. The system is very very quick even starting interprise take just 10 seconds initially and then about 3 seconds thereafter. I use my computer at the moment as the server with all other conected pc connected to it. Server is 2005 Express I do get lots of errors which i have grow used to a little although it would be good to stop these. Errors occur when opening the receipts screen, or when minimising and maximising a screen. My main issue is the speed of adding products to a order - now when searching for a product in inventory-find it is fast or when stock adjustment screen is up it is very fast just when adding to orders it is slow and i have found the using the right caps makes a big difference ie. if a product code is F334 and i put in f334 it is slow and most times times out until i put in F334 also instead of typing in the item box it is much slower than selecting the drop down and ttyping in there. I am looking a 2 things 1. Dedicated server running 2005 server full version 2. Vista 64 Bit on my system if the software is stable on it Before doing this as before i need to know that the software indeed does work without issues on Vist 64 bit - now the reason for 64 bit is that i do a lot of graphic and cad work that demands lots of RAM although i don't use these during normal working hours just after. Thanks Ramil your thoughts are appreciated! |

Ramil, What about when you have a remote server and you are running over webservices. Is it better to have a dedicated SQl box running in Lan? Has anyone used a configuration like this? Any issues? What were the configurations? Pratt |
